Hartmann's Valley

Hartmann's Valley is one of the most remote and spectacular wilderness areas in northwestern Namibia, located in the Kaokoveld (Kaokoland) region near the border with Angola. The valley stretches approximately 70 km from south to north and terminates near the Kunene River.

Hartmann's Valley is characterized by:



Vast sand plains and red dunes

Wildlife



Although not a traditional big-game safari destination, the valley supports:

Brown hyena

Desert-adapted wildlife

Numerous desert birds and reptiles.

Culture



The area is home to the semi-nomadic Himba, one of Africa's best-known traditional pastoral communities. Cultural visits are a major attraction in the region.



Access



Hartmann's Valley is extremely remote and generally requires:



A well-equipped 4×4 vehicle and experienced off-road driving skills, or

Fly-in access via nearby airstrips and luxury camps such as Wilderness Serra Cafema. Roads are rough, fuel, and supplies are scarce, and mobile coverage is generally absent.
